I read every review for this waffle maker. I have now had it for two weeks and it lives up to it's five star reviews. I have often avoided waffle makers because, in my experience, a slight change in the recipe results in waffles that stick. Changing the cooking time and/or painting or spraying the cooking surfaces doesn't seem to help. This maker came out of the box and has performed to perfection ever since.
Performing to perfection has not been easy in this household. Two of the four family members are gluten sensitive. I started with a recipe using gluten free flour. Perfection! Then I tried a recipe from a standard cookbook that I have tried many times before with other makers with mixed results. Perfection! I then tried varying the kinds of flours and proportions in the recipe. Never a sticking waffle, excellent control of the temperature, texture, and moisture content of the cooked waffle. So far, I have never detected significant differences in the softness/doneness of one part of the waffle compared to another part. I experiment extensively when I cook. This is a waffle maker that will allow me to do that.
Incidentally, one other reviewer mentioned that the temperature control seemed to create the impression that it is cheaply made. The control setting can be moved without detecting any resistance. I started out being concerned about that. It does create the impression the other reviewer noted. However, in the time I have had to observe how that control works in practice, the setting has never changed by accident. I set it, cook the waffles and it stays where it was set until I want to change it. Villaware positioned the control where it would be very difficult to accidentally change the setting.
